Buildbase FA Vase Coming Up

30 Clubs Involved

Epsom & Ewell put up a gallant battle last night in their FA Cup replay against Step 5 Beckenham Town, who needed extra time before finally going through. That leaves us with just three combatants in Hanworth Villa who face AFC Croydon Athletic next Tuesday and Spelthorne Sports and Raynes Park Vale who play each other also next Tuesday.

Hopefully, as a League, we can do better in the FA Vase, with 30 clubs competing over this forthcoming weekend in the 1st Qualifying Round. Two clubs are playing on Friday evening, namely Bagshot, who entertain Sussex rivals in Sidlesham, and Epsom & Ewell who we now know are playing on Friday evening away to Lingfield, due to cricket apparently having priority at Lingfield.

Most of the ties are on Saturday, including three all CCL affairs. One or two of our clubs face long journeys, not least Abbey Rangers who go to Gloucestershire based Lydney Town. It shouldn't faze Abbey who nearly always seem to draw the short straw in terms of travelling long distances in this competition. CB Hounslow make a journey in a different direction, on their way to play Rothwell Corinthians in Northants, while Balham go east to play Sheppey United.

There are two ties on Sunday, with AC London travelling to Surrey Elite League club Westside, who ground share at AFC Croydon Athletic. Kick-off is 3.00 p.m. The other Sunday tie sees Sheerwater at home to Lancing, at Woking FC, kick-off 1.00 p.m.

Reverting to Saturday, Southall's home tie against Reading City is being played at Uxbridge FC.

There is a sprinkling of league fixtures as well, Including in Division One, where the young Dorking Wanderers side entertain 2nd place Farnham Town.

In the Premier Division there are three games, perhaps the most intriguing being Banstead playing at home to Walton and Hersham. Walton have yet to get their season going whilst Banstead remain unbeaten at present.

All the fixtures can be found on the fixtures page
