Chertsey make it to the Vase Semi-Final

Semi-Final draw pits them against Northwich Victoria

The story of the week can only revolve around Chertsey Town who travelled up to Northern League West Auckland Town in the quarter final of the FA Vase and came away with a 2-0 victory. Chertsey are now in the semi-final, the first time a CCL club has managed that since the 2012-2013 season (Guernsey FC). They have been drawn away to Northwich Victoria, members these days of the North West Counties League, in which they currently hold 5th position, and have only played one previous season in the FA Vase. That statement is somewhat misleading as they played in the Football Conference for many seasons, entering the FA Trophy not the Vase and reaching the Final on three occasions and winning itonce. They are a big club but fell on hard times, dropping to Step 5 two seasons ago and now hoping to claw their way back to higher levels.

The semi-final is two-legged and Chertsey will play away on Saturday 16 March and at home on 23 March.

In the League, SCR were pegged back by Camberley 2-2 after going two ahead but are now six points ahead of Chertsey in the Premier table, the latter though having five matches in hand. It is an intriguing situation. The advantage would appear to stilll lie with Chertsey but it's a lot of games to make up.

The biggest win of the day came at Horley Town who beat Hanworth Villa 5-0. Horley seem to be revitalised following their change of management but Hanworth supporters must be fristrated as you never know what you are going to get from the Middlesex side.

The "next best" win came from Colliers Wood who, rather surprisingly beat 3rd placed Abbey Rangers 4-0. Another club on the up is Walton & Hersham whose battle to avoid relegation is gaining ever more momentum with three consecutive wins now under their belt.

The race for the championship is exciting in Division One. This week, the "big" match saw Frimley beating Epsom 4-2, Epsom's two only coming in the last few moments. This rather leaves Epsom on the fringe of matters but there is still time for that to change.

Sheerwater will be disappointed by only drawing one apiece at home to Dorking Wanderers Res leaving Bedfont & Feltham at the top on goal difference as they made no mistake at Chessington & Hook. Overall there is just a single point between the top three.

Tooting Bec are dark horses and they defeated Farnham Town 2-0 which has possibly ended the latter's quest for promotion.

The basement battle between Fleet Spurs and Kensington Borough fizzled out with a nil-nil draw leaving matters equally tight at the bottom with just two points separating the bottom four.

There are plenty of midweek matches this week with almost a full list on Tuesday evening in the Premier Division.

Where next?
