Horley Town, sole survivors in FA Vase

In the end it was left to Horley Town, under manager Glynn Stephens (pictured) to keep the FA Vase flying in the CCL, as they are now the sole remainers in the competition for this season, following their fine result over Wessex League side Baffins Milton Rovers in the 3rd Round on Saturday, a 4-1 victory securing Horley their place in the 4th Round, for the first time ever.

The visitors did not help themselves by having two players sent off but two goals in the last ten minutes saw Horley to a 4-1 victory. We will know soon who they have drawn in the 4th Round

Our other two clubs playing in the 3rd Round were both narrowly defeated. Walton & Hersham will certainly be kicking themselves as they held a one goal lead over Windsor until five minutes before the end, only to concede two goals at the death. Windsor, of course, were a CCL club until the FA decided to move them in their wisdom and we shall follow their further progress with interest.

Also exiting the competition were Westfield, who faced an extremely tough draw away at Crowborough Athletic. There was only one goal in the match, but it was Crowborough who scored it in the second half.

There were some unpredictable results in the League on Saturday. Both Bedfont Sports and Sutton Common Rovers took full advantage of the fact that Walton and Westfield were otherwise engaged as both won their matches and it is now looking closer at the top of the table.

Given recent form, one would not have expected Chertsey Town to win at Hanworth Villa but they did and scored five goals in doing so, with just the one consolation for the Villans.

Aother result that would have come into the unexpected category was Godalming's victory at home to Redhill, albeit by a single goal but it was only 7 days since Redhill had won at top of the table Westfield.

In Division One, Farleigh did well to secure a point at Cobham, whilst Sheerwater knocked five past AC London, which does not happen too often. Worcester Park continued their relentless progress though with a 6-0 home win over South Park Reserves
