Bedfont clinch second promotion place

The “big” news from Saturday was that Bedfont Sports secured 2nd place in the Premier Division table with their 2-1 win over Walton & Hersham, and with it, the second promotion spot. The League’s congratulations go to all at Bedfont and they will now join Westfield in Step 4 level next season, which if the rough maps issued by the FA are to be believed, will be in the Bostick League, although the Chairman of the Southern League said yesterday that nothing was certain yet, so like everyone else, our clubs will have to wait and see.

Commiserations go to Sutton Common Rovers who have matched Bedfont all the way until the last couple of games when they could only draw which handed the initiative to Bedfont.

It was an unusual day in the Premier Division yesterday with no less than four nil-nil draws which, without actually checking, has probably never happened before. Indeed goals were limited throughout the division with the nine matches that went ahead producing just 15 goals.

In Division One goals were more plentiful, with Sheerwater leading the way with an 8-1 victory over Kensington Borough, followed by Staines Lammas who beat Farleigh Rovers 5-0.
This week sees our first two cup finals, starting on Wednesday with the Youth League Cup Final (not to be confused with the Grant-McLellan Youth Cup) between Chessington & Hook United and Conquest, to be played at Abbey Rangers FC, kick-off 7.45 p.m.

That will be followed on Saturday by the Esoteric Recordings Division One Final between Eversley & California and Staines Lammas, at Windsor FC, kick-off 3.00 p.m.
