New Manager Appointed following resignation of Steve Dormer

Guildford City Football Club is disappointed to announce that first team manager Steve Dormer has today resigned to take up a managerial vacancy at a Step Four club. Steve leaves with our thanks for stepping into the managerial position when Dean Thomas took up the vacant manager’s post at Godalming Town in September. The highlight of Steve’s time as manager was leading the side against Woking in the semi-final of the Surrey Senior Cup; a game played in front of 545 people at the Spectrum and only lost to a last minute goal. Everybody at the club would like to wish Steve well in his new position.

Guildford City has moved quickly to appoint the current assistant Chris Balchin as the new first team manager. Chris is Guildford through and through and played junior and youth football for Guildford City Boys & Girls FC. He also spent a short period at Wycombe Wanderers FC. Chris has latterly had a successful period in charge at Surrey Elite League side Merrow FC, before joining Steve as assistant manager in January of this year.

Chris said of his appointment “Becoming first team manager of Guildford City is an honour and a proud day for me. Guildford is my home town and I love this club. I’ll work tirelessly now until the beginning of the season to get the squad in order. I’m very lucky that we have good players at the club at present and I will do all I can to keep these within the club. I will be looking to bring in a coach and an assistant and we will announce those a little further down the line. I’ll look to get the boys playing with freedom and bring some fun to the Spectrum. Support from locals is important and hopefully we can play football that attracts supporters and gets locals talking about Guildford City Football Club.”

We warmly welcome Chris to his new role, and we wish him all good fortune for the future.

On Sunday evening, 30 April, at 7.30pm the club are holding their annual presentation evening at the City Club, Joseph’s Road. Steve Dormer, Chris Balchin and the players will be in attendance and it will be a good opportunity to thank Steve and wish him well. There is a buffet and a raffle and presentations for Supporters’ Player of the Year, Manager’s Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. Entrance is £5 which is payable on the evening.
