Six clubs through, ten to replay

An intriguing set of FA Cup results over the weekend has seen six of our clubs through to the Preliminary Round at the first hurdle with a further ten facing replays on Tuesday evening. Two of those replays are all-CCL so there will be a minimum of eight clubs through.

Of our four Step 6 representatives, Farnham Town did exceptionally well to earn a draw at Step 5 Fleet Town, whilst AFC Hayes fought out a 1-1 draw at home to Wembley. The other two, Tooting Bec and Walton & Hersham went out to fellow CCL clubs Guildford City and Southall respectively.

There were a high number of drawn games, which means that most of Tuesday’s planned league games have had to be postponed (details on website) but of the clubs that won, Knaphill’s was the most emphatic in terms of goals as they returned from Dorset with a 4-1 win over Wessex League Shaftesbury. Southall also scored four in their 4-2 win at Walton & Hersham.

In the replays, Egham now face a trip to Lancing in Sussex but if you’re looking for a local game, Badshot Lea at home to Ascot looks a good bet after the clubs drew two apiece today. Other CCL clubs at home in replays on Tuesday evening are Cobham at home to Step 4 Chertsey Town following a draw at Alwyns Lane, Farnham Town at home to Fleet Town plus Abbey Rangers at home to Loxwood and Molesey at home to SCR, following Friday evening’s draw.

As there were so many draws, the revised league programme for Saturday 24 August will be finalised this coming Wednesday once we have the results of all the replays.

There were seven games in Division One on Saturday, the pick of which arguably, was Bagshot’s narrow home win over Epsom & Ewell who have not made the start they wanted, along with Fleet Spurs’ 4-2 home win over Godalming Town. Last season’s bottom club, Cove, reprieved from relegation, enjoyed a solid 2-0 win at Brirish Airways. With the majority of clubs now having played two matches, it is newcomers Westside who find themselves at the top of the table with six points and no goals conceded as yet. Also on maximum points are Chessington & Hook and Fleet Spurs.

There are still six clubs yet to get off the mark.

This coming week, Jersey Bulls will be playing their first match on the mainland on Wednesday evening when they travel to Bedfont Sports to play FC Deportivo Galicia, in a match that is likely to attract a considerable attendance.
