Chertsey FA Vase Match is OFF

One of the Buildbase FA Vase matches tomorrow has already been postponed, and that is the one up in Manchester where Chertsey Town were due to travel to Irlam FC, who have tweeted a phot of their snow covered pitch. It will now take place next Saturday, 9 Feb, which means that Chertsey’s match away to AFC Hayes is now postponed.

The other Vase match involving Abbey Rangers looks as if it will meet with better fortune as opponents Cray Valley (PM) have tweeted to say that their pitch is both frost and snow free at present.

Whether the full league programme will go ahead tomorrow or not is yet to be seen but some areas have seen very little snow so far. One that should go ahead is SCR’s home game against Spelthorne Sports and it is an opportunity for SCR to establish a 5 point lead over Chertsey at the top, although the latter will have three matches in hand. Banstead will try to keep pace as they entertain Colliers Wood.

At the bottom of the table, basement side Walton & Hersham need to start putting some points on the board if they are to escape relegation to Division One. They are already four points adrift and it will not be easy for them, albeit they are at home, against a rejuvenated Horley Town under new management. Another crucial game in the relegation stakes is Hanworth Villa at home to AFC Hayes in an all Middlesex derby.

In Division One it is all getting very exciting as clubs chase the one definite promotion spot. Leaders Frimley are without a match, having brought forward their originally scheduled game against Dorking Wanderers Reserves, so second placed Sheerwater, doubtless buoyed by their 7-0 win against British Airways in midweek, will be looking to take over top spot as they welcome Ash United.

The ”big” match though is arguably Epsom & Ewell playing at home to Farnham Town. The latter have surprisingly dropped points recently to teams at the wrong end of the table but they have games in hand over all their rivals in the top six. It will be tough through against an Epsom side who have been in top form recently.

Keep an eye also on Tooting Bec who have also not lost a league match for a long time now. They travel to Fleet Spurs who, despite their lowly position in the table, have shown they are capable of beating the best and they will be buoyed following their win in the Esoteric Recordings Cup last week, a win that took them into the semi-final.
