There was a full league programme last Saturday, 12 January and both Chertsey and SCR maintained their stranglehold at the top of the Premier Division. They are level on points but SCR have played two more matches. Banstead are back in 3rd place seven points behind but they have played more matches. They did their chances of catching the top two no harm though as they won 5-1 away at Camberley, who rarely concede that many at home.

Down at the bottom a very late goal secured a point for Walton & Hersham in a high scoring 3-3 draw away to Redhill, whilst Badshot Lea eased their relegation fears as they held on to a solitary goal win away to Southall.

In Division One, the day’s plaudits must go to Bagshot. On the opening day of the season they conceded eleven goals away to Bedfont & Feltham but on Saturday in the reverse match on Saturday, they managed a draw one apiece and actually took the lead, although the League’s leading scorer Michael Capon equalised before half-time. Bagshot stood firm though and they were rightly pleased with their battling performance against one of the leading sides in Division One.

Frimley maintained their long winning run with a 3-0 home victory over Sandhurst Town, whilst two of the other main contenders, namely Farnham Town and Sheerwater, also both won. Epsom & Ewell though could only draw at home to Ash United and lost a little ground.

This midweek sees most of the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup 3rd Round matches being played. The draw threw up some intriguing local matches, including our two FA Vase survivors Chertsey Town and Abbey going head to head at Chertsey, and Spelthorne Sports taking on Hanworth Villa with not much more than a mile between the two clubs Two other ties see the much improved AFC Hayes taking on Bedfont & Feltham, and Sheerwater at home at Woking FC to Banstead, who are enjoying their best season for a long time.

Tomorrow night’s matches are completed with Knaphill playing at home to Fleet Spurs. There is one Premier Division game, Raynes Park Vale at home to Southall and a Surrey Premier Cup match between Bagshot and Frimley Green. Bagshot were drawn at home but the match is being played at Frimley.

Two more Premier Cup matches take place on Wednesday, with FC Deportivo entertaining SCR plus Guildford City entertaining CB Hounslow in what looks a very even match-up.

We still have extra-time and penalties in the competition if required but all the ties have to be settled on the night with the quarter final draw scheduled to take place at the next Management Meeting on Monday 21 January.
