Seventeen CCL clubs involved in FA Buildbase Vase this weekend

Southall already through after playing Friday evening

The League has 17 clubs competing in the Buildbase FA Vase 1st Round Proper this weekend which is five more than last season. The League sends its best wishes to all our competing clubs although it is too late for Sheerwater who lost heavily against Southall last night after conceding goals late on.

Including Sheerwater five clubs from Division One are still involved and there is one more all CCL tie which sees Sutton Common Rovers entertaining Cobham, which has the makings of a close tie. Abbey Rangers will be pleased that they don’t have to trek to Gloucestershire this time although they are still away but comparatively only “up the road” at Rayners Lane.

Badshot Lea play away to Andover Town, following the latter’s enforced relegation to Step 6 last term, and will be hoping for victory with Andover having only won once in the Wessex League this season but nothing’s ever certain in cup football in particular.

Hanworth Villa have a decent overall record in the Vase but face a tough match at home to Sussex based Pagham who sit in 3rd place in the Southern Combination. Walton & Hersham travel down to Sussex to meet Steyning Town who used to be in the CCL some years ago. They are in Step 6 but are in second place so Walton currently under the guidance of Dixon Gill need to finally get their season going if they are to make progress.

There are two matches on the Sunday, one being FC Deportivo playing at home to Step 6 Irchester United from the United Counties League whilst the other sees Banstead travelling to North London to meet Broadfields United from the Spartan South MIdlands League currently in 2nd place in the SSML Division One.

The league programme is much reduced but one match that stands out in Division One is the clash between unbeaten Frimley Green at home to Farnham Town who are at the top of the division. In the Premier Division, the “Merton” derby takes place with Colliers Wood United at home to Raynes Park Vale.
