Buildbase FA Vase Review

12 clubs through to 1st Round Proper

It was a fascinating weekend in the FA Vase with nine CCL clubs winning through to the 1st Round Proper, where they will be joined by Epsom & Ewell, Hanworth Villa and Westfield, all exempt to this stage, making twelve in all.

The best win, in terms of goal margins, came from Walton & Hersham, who, after scoring seven in midweek, made light work of seeing off the challenge of Southern Counties East side, Sporting Club Thamesmead, scoring eight without reply.

Balham hit five against another side from that League, Forest Hill Park, whilst in an all-CCL tie on Friday evening, Horley Town hit AC London for five without reply.

Frimley Green pulled off a 3-2 win at Badshot Lea in the other all CCL tie but one of the most impressive performances came from Division One Kensington Borough who triumphed 4-2 away to Chatham Town, who had been in the Ryman League last season.

Other impressive away wins came from Farnham Town who travelled a long way to Warminster Town and won 4-0, whilst Spelthorne Sports hit three at Hassocks in Sussex without reply.

On the other side of the coin there were disappointing defeats for certain of our better placed Premier sides, including Abbey Rangers and Colliers Wood both of whom went out to Step 6 opposition. FC Deportivo Galicia departed the competition on penalties after a nil-nil draw at Meridian and both CB Hounsloow and AFC Hayes lost away matches by the odd goal.

Finally on Sunday, Camberley Town travelled down to Chippenham Park and returned with a 2-0 win.

In a depleted league programme, Bedfont Sports lost to Guildford City, their first defeat in the League this season, leaving only Westfield undefeated. Epsom & Ewell seem to be picking up with their second successive draw, this time at home to Hanworth Villa.

Match of the Day in Division One was the clash between 1st and 2nd, which Worcester Park shaded 5-4 against Eversley & California
