CCL Boosted by New Youth Divisions

Under-18 and Under-21 Divisions start this season

With the addition of the new Under-18 and Under-21 Divisions, the CCL breaks new boundaries next season, possibly becoming the only League operating at Step 5/6 with its own youth divisions at both Under 18 and Under 21 levels.

We currently have 16 clubs signed up for the Under-18’s being a mixture of those clubs arriving from the Southern Youth League following the decision of that League to ask the CCL to take it over, plus existing CCL clubs and then six in a pioneering Under-21 Division, which will allow a maximum of 4 overage players.

The 16 clubs in the Under-18 Division will be divided into two geographical divisions, to be announced next week, but we could still accept one or two more, the only proviso being that you must be able to play in midweek on a floodlit pitch. Please phone 07956 930719 if interested.

The number of recruits for the Under-21’s is a little disappointing after the clamour for such a division at last season’s AGM but we can still take other clubs who again have until 10 July to apply. A League spokesman said “we intend to run this new division next season to get it off the ground and hopefully expand in future seasons”.

The League’s Grant-McLellan Youth Cup will be a far larger competition this season, with 26 entries already having been received.

The promotion of youth football is a key element of the FA’s ongoing initiatives and there exists a vacancy for anyone who may be interested in sponsoring either or both the new divisions. Anyone who may be interested can phone 07956 930719 to discuss the possibilities.
