How Will It All End?

Chertsey on the brink, Sheerwater or Frimley? etc.

With just three Saturdays to go, matters are starting to sort themselves out at the top and bottom of the tables.

At the top of the Premier Division, Chertsey’s relentless grind to the championship is reaching fulfilment and they will be champions were they to win on Saturday at home to Southall and SCR to lose away at Abbey Rangers. Even if it doesn't happen on Saturday, it does now seem only a matter of time.

At the foot of the table, it is sad to see Walton & Hersham on the brink of relegation. If they lose on Saturday though away to Knaphill, it will be all over as they cannot then escape bottom place. Joining them in relegation will not be known for a while as there are just 5 points between the next eight clubs.

We now know both finalists in the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup, which will see Sutton Common Rovers taking on CB Hounslow in the Final on Saturday 11 May at Windsor FC, kick-off 3.00 p.m.

We have one finalist in the Esoteric Recordings Division One Challenge Cup and that is Epsom & Ewell, which will be some consolation to them after they fell out of the Division One promotion place. The other Final spot is between Frimley Green and Fleet Spurs, who play next Tuesday, at Frimley, kick-off 7.45 p.m. The Final itself will be at Dorking Wanderers FC, the HQ of Surrey County FA, on Bank Holiday Monday 6 May, kick-off 3.00 p.m.

The Division One championship race which looked very competitive until very recently now sees just two clubs left in the running, namely Sheerwater and Frimley Green. If Sheerwater complete their season on Saturday by beating Ash United, and Frimley were to lose away to Farnham Town, Sheerwater would be crowned champions. If the results were to go the other way though, and Sheerwater lost with Frimley winning, the latter would then need just two points from their remaining two matches to snatch the championship.

As to relegation from Division One, the regulations simply state that the bottom two will be liable to be relegated. Cove are now assured of bottom place of the clubs but AC London, following their expulsion, will probably be regarded as the bottom club, which, if so, would certainly enhance Cove’s chances of a reprieve and that also applies to whoever finishes second bottom, between Fleet Spurs and Eversley & California.

Where next?

Getting Closer but nothing definite yet Chertsey need one more win, Frimley need to win last two
They've done it! Huge Congratulations to Chertsey Town
