Premier Division

Ascot United regained top place in the league from Spelthorne Sports with a 2-1 victory at Ashford Common. Spelly had gone top last Tuesday with a 3-0 win at Banstead Athletic. There were very few changes in the positions in the divisional table, the top eleven teams and the bottom five all staying put. Third place Southall lost 2-1 at sixth place Frimley Green, all the goals coming in the first half hour. Knaphill’s game at Balham was postponed and Molesey went down at Redhill, who scored all the goals in their 3-0 victory after the hour mark.

Egham Town gained a welcome win, their first in eight games, 3-0 at home to Colliers Wood, who have not experienced victory since November. Badshot Lea won the highest-scoring match of the day in the division, beating Guildford City by the odd goal in five. The Sweeney had taken the lead within the first couple of minutes, but the Baggies took all the points with an 87th minute winner. There was yet another defeat for CB Hounslow United, 3-1 at Abbey Rangers, who enjoyed their third successive win.

Division 1

Jersey Bulls won 3-0 at Walton & Hersham. Farnham Town continued their pursuit with a 3-2 win at British Airways in a game of three goals from penalties, two for the Airways. This concluded a satisfactory week for Town, following their 2-0 defeat of Fleet Spurs in midweek. Farnham have now won seven league games on the trot, and they have a 10-point lead over third place Bedfont & Feltham, who didn’t have a game on Saturday.

There were few notable changes in league position, though Epsom & Ewell have made a spectacular rise from 17th to seventh since Christmas. Their latest victory was 2-1 at Chipstead against Ash United. Sandhurst Town and Tooting Bec didn’t have league games and remain fourth & fifth respectively. The Fizzers had overtaken Bec with a 3-2 midweek victory between the sides in an eventful game, which had two goals for Sandhurst’s Danny Turner and three red cards. Fleet Spurs remain sixth despite their second defeat in four days, losing 1-0 at Kennels Lane to AFC Hayes. The highest winning margin of the day was at Deportivo, where Westside enjoyed their second big away win in a fortnight, rattling in seven without reply. The goals were spread across six players.

Down in the danger area, Chessington gained a point in a 3-3 draw at Chalky Lane against Bagshot, with Kenan Muganda getting all the Baggies’ goals. Kane Sergeant’s equaliser, his second goal of the game for Chessy, came in the 96th minute of the game. Godalming went down 3-1 at Cove, while Eversley didn’t have a league game. The Boars remain on 14 points, while the Gs have 15 and Chessington 17.
