Walton & Hersham take goal scoring honours

Premier Division

Ascot United have increased their lead at the top of the table to five points after their 3-0 home victory over Colliers Wood United, who drop to eighth. Knaphill beat Spelthorne Sports 2-0 and replace Spelly in second place. The Knappers have risen from 11th place over the last month following four successive wins.

Ten-man Southall remain in fourth after a 1-1 home draw with mid-table Badshot Lea, while Molesey are up to fifth after a 2-0 victory at struggling Sheerwater.

Balham beat Egham Town at the Wibbandune Ground by the odd goal in seven, scoring four second-half goals after being 3-0 down at the break. The winner for the Blazers came from Ash Snadden, three minutes into stoppage time. There were also seven goals at CB Hounslow United, with Banstead Athletic getting five of them spread among five players. The Dragons extended their run of league defeats to seven and didn’t help themselves by having two players sent off. Abbey Rangers also scored a lot of goals away from home, beating Camberley Town 4-0 with two goals for Jamie Hoppill.

Guildford City are gradually climbing the league and now stand in 14th place. Benga Ogunseye scored both goals in their 2-0 victory against Raynes Park Vale. Hanworth Villa gained a welcome point in a goalless draw at Rectory Meadow against Frimley Green.

Division 1

Jersey Bulls didn’t have a league game, which gave Farnham Town the chance to reduce the Islanders’ lead to 24 points, and they made the most of the opportunity with a 2-1 home win against Bagshot. They now occupy second place, one point ahead of Bedfont & Feltham, who had a home 2-2 draw against Tooting Bec, who drop to fifth place.

The outstanding result of the day came from Walton & Hersham, who had a thumping 8-2 win at the Elmbridge Excel Sports Hub against mid-table Cove. Leon Lalor-Dell notched three of their goals. The Swans have risen four places in the league in the last two weeks and now lie in fourth. Kensington and Ealing Borough are now up to sixth after their 2-1 win against Chessington & Hook United at Chalky Lane.

Epsom & Ewell gained a welcome three points with a 3-0 win against British Airways, which included two goals for Bobby Bennett. There were draws for three of the teams currently in the lower reaches of the division. FC Deportivo Galicia and Godalming Town shared six goals, with all Depor’s goals coming in stoppage time at the end of the game. The game between Eversley & California and mid-table AFC Hayes had no such last-minute drama, finishing 1-1.
