Shocks in Premier Challenge Cup

An attendance of 225 watched Walton & Hersham’s final league match at Stompond Lane on Tuesday and the Swans marked the occasion with a bang, rather destroying the challenge of neighbours Chertsey Town on the night, winning by 7 goal to nil, to take them up to 2nd place in the table. What a shame that one of England’s most iconic grounds will be lost to football for housing!

Barring any FA Vase replay next Tuesday, Walton’s next competitive home match will be at the new Walton Hub on Tuesday 3 October, when they entertain Guildford City.

In the meantime there have been 6 matches in this season’s Premier Challenge Cup this week, with one or two ending in what might be judged “shock” results, including the removal of league leaders and last season’s finalists, Westfield FC, at the hands of Sutton Common Rovers on Monday evening, who won 3-1.

On Tuesday evening there was a bigger shock as Division One Raynes Park Vale came from two down late in the game to score twice to equalise, and then notch the winner in extra time, with Hanworth Villa eventually down to nine men. FC Deportivo Galicia claimed their place in the 2nd Round of the Cup on Wednesday evening with a solitary goal win over AC London.

The draw for the 2nd Round now looks like this with the bulk of the fixtures to be played on Tuesday 10 October.
