Who will be the unlucky club?

There is just the one major league issue to be decided and that is who takes the second relegation spot in the Premier Division.

It is the last Saturday of the season on Saturday and there are just two points between the three clubs in danger. The slight advantage lies with CB Hounslow who will play away to Balham, who are two points behind them. If CB win or draw they will be playing Premier football again next season. If Balham lose they are down, if they draw they have to hope that the third club in the picture, AFC Hayes, who are away to already relegated Walton & Hersham, lose.

If AFC Hayes lose and Balham draw, both clubs will end the season with 40 points. In that scenario it would be AFC Hayes who are relegated as their goal difference, identical at the moment, would then be worse than Balham’s.

We’d better just wait for the results! Whoever it is though will retain one slim hope that machinations elsewhere will manifest themselves into a reprieve. That will only happen though if there are insufficient clubs in the first two places at Step 6 throughout the country to fill all the promotion spots but even then any reprieves will be determined by a points per game comparison with all the other second bottom clubs at Step 5.

On to happier matters and Chertsey will be presented tomorrow afternoon with the League Championship Trophy by League Officials at their match at home to Spelthorne Sports. It looks likely that they will be directed to the South Central Division of the Bostik League next season and, with the FA Vase final on the horizon, the Club deserves great credit for what has been almost a perfect season, with only SCR able to offer any serious challenge to them, which faded in the closing weeks.
