Lots of Musings

The Latest from Press Secretary Neil Morrell

Football activity this midweek, you will notice, features activity from Tuesday night and, in addition, the solitary Division One fixture from Friday evening over at South Park where their reserves and Epsom Athletic battle it out for the three league points that are on offer on the evening. Observers of our fixture list will also notice that, apart from the Frimley Green versus Sandhurst Town Division One fixture, internal cup fever account for all other fixtures on Tuesday night as the 2nd Round of the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup other thirteen fixtures are due to be played. Details of the 3rd Round Draw can be found elsewhere on our respective websites but, for now though, let’s have a look out and about from the thirteen 2nd Round ties played out and about which, on the whole, provided very few surprises result wise.

Cobham were the big winners score wise as they ventured over to struggling Cove and duly dumped their hosts out of the competition following a massive 6-1 victory being secured against their Premier Division hosts. Banstead Athletic, despite falling behind to a 13th minute Alex McGregor goal, scored a couple of minutes from time in their home encounter with Epsom & Ewell to force the tie into extra time which failed to separate the two teams meaning penalties would have to decide the outcome of this tie. As a result of this, the 'Salts' overcame their gallant hosts 8-7. Not unlike Banstead, the likes of C.B. Hounslow United, Epsom Athletic and Abbey Rangers found themselves visiting Premier Division sides and, despite falling to defeat on the night, look to have given extremely good accounts of themselves at Westfield, Ashford Town and Farnham Town respectively. All in all, results from all these other Second Round ties played Tuesday show few surprises though, maybe with the exception of lowly Chertsey Town winning 2-1 over at Hanworth Villa after extra time, as per normal, all results can be found elsewhere on our websites as are details of draws for the next round of this competition and also the Division One Cup which, for the record, next round features details of the 3rd round (Quarter-Final) pairings. The Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup has double the amount of ties for all of which dates will follow shortly for commencement.

Over at Frimley Green, the hosts welcomed Sandhurst Town for a Division One fixture and this contest saw the Green score all five goals in a 4-1 victory.

And So then, finally Friday night, briefly we look in at South Park for their game with Epsom Athletic before closing this our latest round of Musings. News from King George’s Field advise us that, despite securing their first home point of the season, South Park Reserves remain rooted at the bottom of the Division One league table despite they and the Blue Stallions playing out a 0-0 draw with their visitors.

Saturday Scene - 17th October, 2015

Leaders Ashford Town remain three points clear following Saturday’s round of Premier Division fixtures. All that stood between hosts Bedfont Sports and the 'Ash Trees' was a 29th minute Max Webb goal which kept their three point advantage over second placed Camberley Town who have played a game less. The 'Reds', Saturday, visited Hanworth Villa who, past midweek, were bowled out of the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup by lowly Chertsey Town on home soil deep into extra time Saturday though an 8th minute Matt Bunyan goal set them on the way to opening a five point gap between second and third place. On 56 minutes, Perry Coles all but ensured the maximum points haul from the game when he made it 2-0. Also in this game, Jesse Atiasse received a straight red some twenty minutes from time which, on reflection of the game, was probably a bit harsh on the hosts result wise. Third spot, as I write, is now occupied by ever improving Horley Town (league wise) thanks, in the main, to a brace from prolific goalscorer Ash Nadesan who bagged a brace in the 2-1 home win against Colliers Wood United. Despite being nine points behind the leaders, Hartley Wintney made it eight league wins out of eight following a 2-1 win over at Raynes Park Vale. Two second half goals within two minutes of each other via, firstly, Eddie Smith and then Adam Everiss set the visitors on the way. However, eight minutes from time, Callum Forbes pulled a goal back for Raynes Park Vale. Sadly, though, from their point of view, this, despite a brave effort, turned out to be their only goal despite their efforts to secure something point wise out of the game. Hosts Epsom & Ewell and Chessington & Hook United both suffered home reversals at the hands of Chertsey Town, 0-1 thanks to a 74th minute Adam Crossley effort over at Chipstead, while, over at Chalky Lane, visitors Knaphill secured a good 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Alex Lumley and Jamie Doble. Redhill were top scorers in the Premier Division Saturday racking up five without reply over at basement club Cove whilst Spelthorne Sports secured another good win at the expense of hosts Guildford City; 4-2 was the final outcome over at The Spectrum. No home joy for hosts Sutton Common Rovers as they went down to a 3-0 reversal to Farnham Town. Finally Premier Division wise, having scored his first ever goal for Westfield earlier on in the week, Rob Parrott netted the only goal in the match over at Stag Meadow, Windsor.

Division One leaders Eversley & California fell behind to a 40th minute Rob Jones goal over at Sheerwater in an highly entertaining encounter. Words of wisdom brought them back on level terms, though, three minutes into the second period courtesy of Matt Stamp. Matt Griffiths then put the visitors 2-1 up on 64 minutes. The 'Boars' held this slim lead for barely eight minutes though as, thanks to Jack Dethridge, we were level again. Barely three more minutes had passed before Will Neville put Eversley & California 3-2 up and then Stamp added his and his team’s fourth and final goal on 79 minutes which was how proceedings ended up. No such goal flurry for second placed C.B. Hounslow United though as they and Bedfont & Feltham drew blanks in this landlord versus tenant match duly ending Bedfont & Feltham's 100% league start. Worcester Park hit visitors Sandhurst Town 6-2 to keep them nicely placed in third spot in the Division One table thanks to a treble from Lee Davison of which one came via the penalty spot. Chris Burke, Joe Cheeseman and Gary Knowelden notched up a goal each to wrap up an highly convincing victory. For the record, Jeffers and Pyled netted for the visitors but these goals, in the end, were mere consolation. Over at Laleham, hosts Staines Lammas, despite taking an early second half lead against Ash United and then going 2-1, slipped to a 3-2 defeat. Last season’s Division One champions Farleigh Rovers remain second bottom despite picking up a point in a 0-0 home draw with Dorking Wanderers Res. Finally from Saturday, Frimley Green and Cobham went head-to-head resulting in Cobham coming away, in the end, three points better off from the trip having secured a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Ryan Anderson and Tevan Webster. Jamie Daltry looked, in this game, to have secured a point for the hosts six minutes from time, however, Cobham were rewarded with their winner two minutes from time.
