Midweek Musings 10-12 November

From Press Secretary Neil Morrell

Midweek Musings this week, weather permitted, comprised of ten competitive games from a variety of competitions on Tuesday evening and a couple Second Round Grant-McLellan Youth Cup ties on Thursday evening over at Chertsey Town, who welcome Camberley Town, and Sandhurst Town who welcome Abbey Rangers. Key fixtures include the mouth-watering Godalming Town (Isthmian FL) versus Guildford City Surrey County Senior Cup, Second Round, tie over at Weycourt on Tuesday evening. Likewise, our boys from Raynes Park Vale renew a past but very friendly get together with Molesey who now play in the Ryman Isthmian League, Division One South, in the same competition and round over at Walton Road, following their promotion at the end of last season, on the same evening. Equally as appealing are the two Middlesex Charity Cup ties over at Hampton & Richmond (Isthmian FL) who welcome Bedfont & Feltham for a Second Round tie while, over at Hanworth Villa, it is Southall (Spartan South Midlands FL) who call in for a First Round tie. In addition, there are Southern Combination Cup matches at Camberley Town and Dorking Wanderers (Isthmian FL) and, just for good measure, four League matches comprising of three from the Premier Division and one from Division One at Bedfont Sports, Redhill and Windsor for the Premier Division games and Eversley & California welcome Sandhurst Town in their Division One encounter.

At the thirteenth time of asking, Premier Division Leaders Hartley Wintney surrendered their 100% League record following a trip to Bedfont Sports which, on the night, ended all square at 1-1 - more about this further in though as first we look back over the various Cup games involving several of our teams out and about.

For our first call, we call in at Weycourt where hosts Godalming Town (Isthmian FL) entertained our boys from Guildford City in a Surrey County Senior Cup, 2nd Round, tie. News available from the game advise us that, following a goal-less first half, this keenly awaited tie was settled by a single goal from Darren Wheeler to see the Ryman Isthmian League boys through by the narrowest of margins. Elimination in this same competition was also inflicted upon brave Raynes Park Vale who went down 2-1 at Molesey (Isthmian FL); Stafforde Palmer hit both the goals for Molesey while the RPV goal came via Tom Harland-Goddard.

Similar story for Bedfont & Feltham as they visited Hampton & Richmond (Isthmian FL) for a 2nd Round Help For Heroes Middlesex Charity Cup match that saw them go down 4-0 on the night. Better Luck for Hanworth Villa though. Despite falling behind to a 25 yard scorcher in their home tie with Southall (Spartan South Midlands FL), Steve Loveridge made it 1-1 to take the tie to penalties which, very pleasingly, saw the 'Villains' secure their progress.

Over at the West Humble Playing Fields, Dorking Wanderers (Isthmian FL) welcomed C.B. Hounslow United for a First Round Southern Combination Cup match and were duly eliminated as the visitors notched up a 2-0 victory. One round later in the same competition, Division One leaders Worcester Park put up a tremendous effort before falling to an odd goal in five defeat over at Camberley Town.

Our three Premier Division games saw leaders Hartley Wintney come from behind to secure a point over at Bedfont Sports thanks to Aaron Parfitt. Therefore, the final 100% League record came to an end. Other games saw Windsor overcome Cove 5-1 at Stag Meadow thanks mainly to super substitute Jack Banks who bagged three on the night. Over at Redhill though, just the one goal was needed for visitors Farnham Town to secure maximum points from the trip.

Division One saw Eversley & California overcome visitors Sandhurst Town 5-2.

Thursday evening, the two Grant-McLellan Youth Cup, 2nd Round, ties saw hosts Chertsey Town overcome Camberley Town 2-1 after extra time while, in the other tie, hosts Sandhurst Town eliminated Abbey Rangers 3-1
