Midweek Musings 3 -5 November

From Press Secretary Neil Morrell

Midweek activity this week covers games played between Tuesday, 3rd, and Thursday, 5th November, covering a range of competitions internally and externally involving participating member clubs.

Despite taking a lead through Samad Kazi on eighteen minutes, hosts Ashford Town suffered a 3-1 defeat in the Football Association Challenge Vase, First Round Replay, over at Short Lane on Tuesday evening as their UHLSPORT Hellenic League, Premier Division, top five side now look forward to a Second Round tie against Deal Town (Southern Counties East FL).

On this same evening, both Chessington & Hook United and Sutton Common Rovers, prior to commencement, might just have slightly fancied their chances in the Surrey County Senior Cup, 2nd Round, ties over at Chipstead (Isthmian FL) and Woking (National FL) respectively. Sadly though, in these ties, both our competing sides bowed out on the night. 'Chessy' went down 4-1 while, for Sutton Common Rovers, regretfully, a rampant Woking side hit ten past them without reply.

Other Cup games on the evening saw Bedfont & Feltham progress to the Quarter-Final of the Middlesex County Premier Cup following a highly impressive 4-0 victory being secured against Uxbridge Reserves (Suburban FL).

Ash United and Badshot Lea were both on the road in their Aldershot Football Association Senior Cup, 2nd Round, ties. Result wise, Ash United went down 5-0 at Alresford Town (Wessex FL) while Badshot Lea needed extra time to overcome hosts Alton Town (Wessex FL) 4-1.

Two Premier Division games also took place on Tuesday night; one of which saw Hartley Wintney go top of the table as thanks to three goals from Sam Argent and one from Eddie Smith. They cruised to a comfortable 4-1 home victory against Spelthorne Sports whilst Bedfont Sports and visitors Farnham Town played out a 1-1 draw.

Wednesday night saw Staines Lammas go head to head with North Greenford United Reserves (Suburban FL) in a Middlesex County Premier Cup, First Round, tie where they ran out 5-4 winners.

Due to a waterlogged pitch over at Chalky Lane, the Division One game between Epsom Athletic and Dorking had to be postponed and will be re-arranged in due course via our Fixture Secretary.

48 hours after being eliminated from the Aldershot Football Association Senior Cup, Ash United were at Leatherhead facing their Under-21 team (Isthmian Youth FL) in a Surrey County Premier Cup, First Round, tie. As in the case of Tuesday evening when defeat was inflicted upon them, regretfully again, it was not to be their night and they were dumped out of the competition as the home team secured a 7-0 victory on the night.
