From Press Secretary Neil Morrell

Midweek activity commenced on Monday evening over at Gander Green Lane where hosts Sutton Common Rovers went head to head with Hanworth Villa in a Premier Division encounter along with a Surrey County Premier Cup, 2nd Round, tie over at Abbey Rangers.

Just a couple of days had passed since 'Rovers' walloped bottom of the Division side Cove 8-1 at this same venue while, on this same day for the 'Villains', points were dropped having surrendered a two goal lead in their home encounter against Westfield. By the time Ross Cheetham had put the visitors 1-0 up Monday evening, (42 minutes) for the record, Saturday, Sutton Common Rovers had already secured a clear four goal advantage against their lowly opponents on the day while, over at the 'Ranch', Hanworth Villa looked to be on the way to a maximum points haul for the afternoon having gone in at the break 2-0 to the good. As we know though, SCR racked up another for second half goals to secure an emphatic 8-1 win while a nine minute spell saw Hanworth Villa pegged back and, in the end, having to settle for a point. Understandably, this game at Gander Green Lane was always going to be a close encounter and we had to wait until the 81st minute before Kamaron English made it 2-0. Three minutes from time, Keiron Wright pulled one back, though, to make for a nervy final few minutes. Unable to ripple the old onion bag again, the final whistle blew thus ensuring the visiting contingent went home happiest having secured, on the night, a good 2-1 victory.

Pleased to see Abbey Rangers pull off a very good 2- 1 win in their game against a good Molesey Reserve team (Suburban FL). Regretfully though, as I write, I am unable to elaborate further on the match though.

Waterlogged pitches accounted for the Premier Division game at Hartley Wintney where Chertsey Town were due to visit along with the Surrey County Premier Cup, 2nd Round, ties over at Merland Rise between Banstead Athletic and Corinthian Casuals Reserves (Suburban FL) and Leatherhead Under 21s (Isthmian Youth FL) who were due to host Worcester Park. C.B. Hounslow United versus Farnham Town in the Southern Combination Cup, 2nd Round, also fell foul of a waterlogged pitch. One other game was postponed; this said fixture being the Premier Division encounter involving Epsom & Ewell who were due to welcome Cove to the High Road, Chipstead. Sadly though, this, for other issues, failed to start and, hopefully via our wonderful Fixture Secretary, will be arranged for a later date.

The Premier Division games at Windsor and Bedfont Sports along with the Southern Combination Cup tie involving Sandhurst Town thankfully, though, all received the thumbs up though and resulted in wins for Sandhurst 4-3 after extra time against Horsley (Surrey Elite Intermediate FL).
Over at Stag Meadow, an 87th minute Adam Kirby goal completed a most remarkable comeback for hosts Windsor who came from 2-0 down to defeat Horley Town 3-2 in a highly entertaining encounter. Bedfont Sports secured the same scoreline in their home encounter against Chessington & Hook United.

Wednesday evening saw the first of the SW20 League encounters between Colliers Wood United and Raynes Park Vale over at the Wibbandune Sports Ground where a smaller than expected attendance for this Derby was less than in previous times. Those who did turn up, though, saw Raynes Park Vale take a 13th minute lead and, overall, looked the most likely to secure the maximum points that were available on the night. Even when Joe Turner pulled it back to 1-1 23 minutes later, overall it was 'Vale' who looked the more likely to run out winners. Not to be, though, and, in the end, a 1-1 draw was recorded.
