Review Sat 20 Jan plus Midweek Preview

It was not a good day for the League in general on Saturday 20 January with all but three scheduled matches suffering postponements due to waterlogged pitches.

Two of the three matches played were in the Premier Division and one saw Bedfont Sports striding on with a 3-0 victory over neighbours Spelthorne Sports. Bedfont are now level on points with Westfield, although the latter have four matches in hand.

The other Premier match saw Knaphill win 3-1 at Chertsey Town, thanks to a hatrick from Harry Rapley.

In Division One, only Frimley Green were able to get their match on and they were rewarded with a 3-1 win over AC London, who were reduced to ten men when their keeper was sent off in the first half.

There are a few more match scheduled for the current midweek, with one already played on Monday evening when SCR became the first club to claim a place in the semi-final of the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup with a close 2-1 win over promotion chasing Cobham from Division One.

The “big” game though is on Tuesday evening, when 2nd place Bedfont Sports entertain top of the table Westfield in a match that will not decide anything but if Westfield triumph, they would then be three points in front of Bedfont with 4 matches in hand. If Bedfont win, they would go top of the table for the first time this season.

Amongst the other matches, Spelthorne Sports entertain South Park in their bid to join Colliers Wood in the 3rd Round of the Surrey Senior Cup. The winners will play away to Chipstead in the quarter final. Colliers Wood are already there, of course, and they face a tough quarter final at home to Dorking Wanderers.

Please note that the match on Wednesday between Balham and Horley Town has been postponed as the floodlights are still out of action at Colliers Wood. They are due to be repaired on Thursday of this week.
