Westfield and Worcester Park looking unstoppable

It was a relief, following the mass washout of the previous Saturday’s programme, that only one game was off in the Premier Division on Saturday and that was at Banstead who were due to have played Bedfont Sports.

All the other matches went ahead and Knaphill won the battle of the “Hills” when they beat Redhill by five goals to nil, including a quick fire hatrick from Harry Rapley, his second in consecutive weeks.

At the top of the League Westfield’s march to promotion seems unstoppable as they won 3-1 at Colliers Wood. The chasing pack fell further behind, with Bedfont and SCR inactive, whilst Walton Hersham suffered a 1-3 home defeat against North Greenford United in a controversial match that saw a Walton’s Jake Newman dismissed on the hour mark.

At the foot of the table, it was a useful point for Epsom & Ewell in a 0-0 draw at Spelthorne but the Surrey club needs a miracle to avoid relegation, currently needing ten points to get themselves away from the bottom three. Second bottom Godalming Town also drew 0-0 at home to CB Hounslow, but, like Epsom, they need wins to get away from the foot.

In Division One, once again South Parl’s pitch let them down and their game at home to Kensington Borough was the only victim of the weather.

Just as in the Premier with Westfield, Worcester Park are looking almost unstoppable in their quest to become champions, as they hit nine without reply at Bagshot.

Behind then, the race for the top three remains tight, with just seven points between the next seven clubs. Staines Lammas who are in that chasing pack lost some ground though, being beaten 1-4 by close rivals Sheerwater. In the other battle within the top seven, AC London beat Eversley & California 2-1.

Life remains tough for the bottom six with not one of them managing to pick up a point.

In midweek this week, SCR maintained their challenge with a 3-0 win at home to Abbey Rangers , but once again it was Westfield to the fore on Tuesday evening as they emphasised their current superiority with a 6-1 win over AFC Hayes.

Colliers Wood finally eased their relegation threat with a 4-1 win at home to Godalming Town and as a result have climbed out of the bottom three.

The other Premier game, the local derby at Spelthorne Sports saw visitors Chertsey come out top 3-2.

There is just the one senior match this evening (Wednesday) at Colliers Wood, when Balham take on Farnham Town, kick-off 7.30 p.m.
