Emphatic Replay Win at Holyport

It was a golden night for CCL newcomers Abbey Rangers on Tuesday evening as they enjoyed an emphatic away win at Hellenic Div One East side, Holyport FC, in their FA Vase replay, by 4 goals to 1.

It was a 120 minute stalemate at Abbey on Saturday with no goals for either side but the visitors were fast out of the blocks last night, going one up within four minutes against their counterparts from the Maidenhead area, thanks to a goal from Ryan Thorpe.

After that it was star man Paul Hodges who took over, scoring a hatrick, with goals on 15, 45 and 65 minutes to ensure Abbey’s passage through to the next round, in which they will entertain another Hellenic League side, this time Tytherington Rocks FC from Div. One West of that League. They hail from Gloucestershire.

Holyport were hampered by the loss of their keeper later in the game after they had made all three subs but the writing was on the wall before that, even though they pulled one back on 75 minutes.

Abbey’s win makes them the eighth team in the League to successfully come through the 1st Qualifying Round and Banstead could make it nine tonight (Wednesday) when they travel to Seven Acre & Sidcup in their replay.
