Sad News from Hanworth Villa

RIP Bobby Dawson

Ex-manager and Hanworth Villa club stalwart Booby Dawson has sadly lost his fight against a rare blood cancer. Club Secretary Dave Brown has sent the following tribute.

"Bobby had a massive influence on Hanworth Villa taking us to the 4th qualifying round of the FA cup at clubs first involvement in that competition losing out narrowly to AFC Totton then a National League South club.

But it wasn’t only Hanworth Villa where he made his mark having played his football within the nonleague system he naturally gravitated into management with British Airways making them a hugely successful club within Middlesex as well as the Commercial League set up when it was probably at its strongest.

He also played for Chiswick Griffin one of the best and highly successful side in the Sunday leagues in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Bobby was known as a fighter and had spent the last 6 months in hospital, nursed by his loving wife Linda, fighting a rare form of blood cancer surviving longer than the medical profession thought possible until he had to eventually give in to the disease.

We feel as a club his passing shouldn’t go unnoticed within football at our level and we will be dedicating our FA Vase game on 5th Dec in his memory."

The League also sends its condolences to Bobby's family and to everyone at Hanworth Villa, following this sad news
