Egham Town fail to win Inter Step Play off

Egham lose 3-1 at Merstham

In a winner takes all match at the Workflow Stadium. Merstham hosted Egham Town in the inter step play off.

This is the last time this type of play off will take place as next season the whole of the NLS will use the same format. Clubs finishing in 2nd place down to 5th place will compete in play off semi-finals and a play off final to determine promotion to step 4. This guarantees two step 5 clubs in each division will be promoted.

Egham Town started well and on 17 minutes Excellence Muhemba rose above the Merstham defence to head home. It should have been more as Egham dominated the first half creating at least three other good chance.

However, on 43 minutes Merstham equalised and at half time it was 1-1.

The second half was a different game and became quite scrappy. The pace and flowing football had dried up. Merstham had the better of the half and took the lead on 64 minutes and on 85 minutes made it 3-1. Egham came back to life in the dying minutes but could not score.

The dream of a return to the Isthmian League ends for this season.
