5 -7 October Read About Abbey Rangers' Stunning Victory in the FA Vase

Midweek Musings 5th - 7th October, 2015

Tuesday evening saw our fixture list take a bit of a hit as two of our proposed six games for the evening fell victim to waterlogged pitches. Firstly, at Young’s Drive, where hosts Badshot Lea were due to welcome Fleet Spurs (Wessex FL) for an Aldershot Football Association Senior Cup, First Round, tie and, in addition also, over at the Memorial Ground, West Street, where Farnham Town were due to entertain Westfield in a Premier Division fixture.

Thankfully though, despite these games, weather conditions did not stop Horley Town hitting visitors Windsor for six without reply over at the New Defence to keep them comfortably placed in the top six as certainly, League wise this season so far, life in the Premier Division for the 'Clarets', on the whole, shows signs of an huge improvement from previous seasons result wise. For Windsor, a heavy defeat such as this, despite only being their second League maximum point loss reversal, will do little to ease the so called pressure on Manager Mick Woodham if alleged media reports are anything to go by. Allegedly of late, a small section of the Stag Meadow faithful (press included) seem to think Woodham seems to have outstayed his welcome which, personally, I find hard to digest mindful of what, and the array of good things, he has brought to the club since his appointment at the club. Sure two wins from ten League games is far from acceptable, even by his standards, which, trust me, are very high. The fact that they have, after Tuesday night, only come away from League matches defeated, suggest the six draws secured so far, in instances, could have easily turned into wins on many of the occasions which would see them up there pushing for top placings with a bit more luck. Let’s not forget, also, just before the start of the season, key players decided to chance their luck elsewhere which is their right naturally but new blood takes a bit of time to settle in and requires patience from all quarters. Personally, my belief remains the same as the day I discovered he was appointed; massively positive and I really hope he can continue to prove what a good person the club have in him along with his backroom team - only time will tell regarding that though. I wish him well.

AFC Hayes put aside their Football Association Challenge Vase disappointment from the Saturday before following a short trip to Bedfont Sports and came away with an odd goal in five victory.

Over at Chalky Lane, it was visitors Raynes Park Vale who took the spoils having notched up a 4-2 victory against Chessington & Hook United.

Finally Tuesday evening, over at Cobham, it was RPM Records Division One Cup football for entertainment on the evening and where further progress was achieved at the expense of Sandhurst Town in a narrow 2-1 victory.

Our two CCFL related games Wednesday evening firstly saw Ashford Town return to the top of the Premier Division table having secured, thanks to goals from Max Webb and Alex Fisher, a 2-1 win over at Colliers Wood United.

Another Fantastic Result for Abbey Rangers who made the long trip to Gloucestershire and were rewarded with continued Football Association Challenge Vase progress having recorded a most impressive 3-0 victory on the night over Tytherington Rocks (Hellenic League) thanks to goals from Ben Kersley and Paul Hodges to give them a two goal advantage come half time. Result wise, Dan Hartley made it 3-0 five minutes into second half play which, despite huge home effort, was, pleasingly, how the contest ended up.
