The Dave Wilson Trophy encounter involving our very own Epsom & Ewell and Ryman League Division One club Chipstead resulted in a 2-1 win for the 'Salts' despite them falling behind just before the interval. Goals just before the hour mark via Reisse Griffin and then barely five minutes later courtesy of Kyle Hough ensured that Epsom & Ewell retained the trophy at Chipstead last Tuesday evening in a one off encounter to remember the late Dave Wilson who spent many years devoting himself to the 'Salts' admin wise.

Winding the clock forward barely 72 hours the first match of the league campaign saw Sutton Common Rovers and Colliers Wood United meet at Gander Green Lane on a pleasant Friday evening in this part of Surrey. Just ahead of kick off though tribute, by means of a one minute applause, was made to Sam Hargreaves a 15 year player who started playing for SCR some four years ago but he sadly suffered a serious heart condition despite the best treatment he sadly passed away at the end of June. Condolences were offered to his parents Mark and Tracey along with brother Tyler and all other family members. 200 yellow balloons were released in his memory.

As for the match against Colliers Wood United a fine attendance of 202 were rewarded with a five goal encounter which 'Wood' won by the odd goal. Scorers on the night were, for Sutton Common Rovers, Jay Holden from the penalty spot and Francois Gabidon while for Colliers Wood Dan Harding bagged a brace along with an effort from Mario Embalo. In a match that was a credit to the League, both clubs are to be congratulated.

I don’t have too much news yet on Saturday but Ashford Town, thanks to a Dan Fleming 79th minute goal defeated league new boys AFC Hayes 1-0 at Short Lane played in front of a crowd of 101, whilst the other Premier Division new boys Redhill lost heavily at Hartley Wintney.
In Division One Abbey Rangers made their debut but lost 0-2 at home to C.B.Hounslow. South Park Reserves though, also new to the League were 5-2 winners at Ash United and finally Dorking Wanders Reserves and Sandhurst Town shared four goals.

Further details of these and all our other games played yesterday should be available via our next bulletin to be issued on Wednesday.
