Shoreham Air Accident

Our condolences

As readers may have become aware, two of the people sadly killed following the air accident at Shoreham on Saturday were footballers who played for Worthing United FC, a fellow Step 5 club, in the Southern Combination (ex Sussex County League). They were Matthew Grimstone & Jacob Schilt, both aged 23. Our thoughts are very much with the friends and relatives of the two players and, of course, with Worthing United and the Southern Combination League.

Clubs in the CCL have been asked to wear black armbands and observe a minute's silence at their matches this midweek and/or on Saturday.

The FA has released the following statement with regard to clubs playing in the FA Cup this weekend.

"Clubs taking part in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round on Friday and across Bank Holiday weekend will have dispensation from The Football Association to hold a minute’s silence prior to kick-off for Worthing United players, Matt Grimstone & Jacob Schilt, who were tragically killed in the Shoreham air crash disaster on Saturday 22 August.

Both Matt and Jacob had last played for Worthing in their FA Cup Extra-Preliminary Round replay against Deal Town on Tuesday 18 August.

Clubs wishing to hold a minute’s silence should notify the match officials on arrival at the ground."
