A Look at the 3rd Round of the FA Vase

By Admin ccl

6 Clubs Carry the Fight

With Ashford suffering a home replay defeat against a very good Kidlington side on Tuesday evening, it is now confirmed that we will have 7 clubs competing in the 2nd Round Proper of the FA Vase, six of whom will be playing on Saturday 21 November.

Looking at the ties in alphabetical order of home club, Colliers Wood United, exempt until this round have a home draw against Loxwood from the Southern Combination (ex-Sussex) League. Loxwood are currently in 7th place in their table.

The next tie ensures that at least one CCL club will play in the 3rd Round, with Hartley Wintney drawn at home to Windsor. Hartley have carried all before them so far this season but Windsor will prove difficult opponents.
Knaphill find themselves at home to Kent opposition in the shape of Tunbridge Wells, who currently sit 12th out of 19 in the Southern Counties East League.

Newhaven will provide the venue for their match against Camberley Town. This looks a tough tie for the Krooners, especially away, as Newhaven have won 11 of their 13 league matches this season and sit at the top of the Southern Combination. They would be wise not to under estimate Camberley though.

Abbey Rangers, our only survivors from Division One and doing magnificently in their first season in the competition, are on the road again with a trip across the water to the Isle of Wight to play Newport IOW. They are members of the Wessex League and sit just below halfway in 14th place.

Finally Sutton Common Rovers will entertain the winner of this evening’s replay between AFC Croydon Athletic and Beckenham Town. This tie will have to be played on either the Friday or the Sunday, as Sutton United, with whom SCR ground share, are at home in the Conference on the Saturday.
Last season three CCL clubs reached the 3rd Round Proper of the competition. Maybe that achievement can be bettered this year.
