Easter Musings

Easter Saturday saw hosts Ashford Town (2nd placed) welcome current leaders Hartley Wintney to Short Lane. This eagerly awaited contest at Short Lane attracted a superb attendance of 272. Despite enjoying the majority of the early possession strong winds ensured few clear chances at either end initially but Jack Beadle broke the deadlock on 36 minutes following an 'Ash Trees' corner when he turned sharply and sent a low drive in at the near post.

Josh Andrews, who actually started it, almost got on the end of a sublime move by the home side just four minutes from the end and could have secured all three points for the Tangerines but his off-balance effort went just wide and it was the visitors who pulled themselves back on level terms deep in stoppage thanks to super sub Ross Cook who headed home to steal a point and deny their hosts what would have been a priceless victory.

Camberley Town are now in third position on goal difference, following a 3-0 home victory secured against AFC Hayes and they have three matches in hand over 4th placed Epsom & Ewell.

Second half goals from Jack Buckle and Jordan Willis secured fifth spot for Hanworth Villa in their home encounter against Chertsey Town at The 'Ranch'.

Two Danny Fernandez converted penalties plus a goal apiece from Phil Page and Matt Robinson sent visitors
Horley Town home from Sutton Common Rovers pointless at Gander Green Lane.

With 35 league games under their belt this season so far bottom club Cove went down to defeat number 32 as visitors Windsor scored two first half goals, via an own goal from Rich Jeffries in the 17th minute and then just
Henry Montague which all but ensured their visit would yield three points and secure back to back league wins.

Another club threatened with the drop are Redhill. Saturday though saw them secure their third home league win in a row following the visit of Colliers Wood United to Kiln Brow. On target for Redhill were Sam Marks in each half and Kery Kedze who slotted home a 67th minute penalty.

Bedfont Sports and Spelthorne Sports shared four goals thanks to an 89th minute equalizer for hosts Bedfont Sports, Badshot Lea picked up a comfortable 3-0 victory from their trip to Chessington & Hook United, whilst Farnham Town were too hot on the afternoon for visitors Raynes Park Vale securing a good 3-1 home victory, and finally Premier Division wise hosts Knaphill recorded a very good 4-1 home victory against Guildford City.

Before looking at league activity in Division One congratulations to Bedfont & Feltham for securing
their place in the RPM Records Division One Cup Final following their 3-2 win at Staines Lammas.

In Division One itself leaders C.B.Hounslow ran out 3-0 home winners against Farleigh Rovers, whilst Ash United probably produced the best result in the division on the day as they inflicted a 4-1
mauling on high flyers Worcester Park over at Youngs Drive.

Banstead Athletic were too hot for Surrey premier Cup Finalists, Frimley Green - 6-2 was the margin of the home win for Banstead at Merland Rise, Dorking were 4-2 home winners against bottom club Epsom Athletic, Cobham won by the odd goal in five over at Sandhurst Town, Sheerwater ran out comfortable 3-0 home winners against Dorking Wanderers and then finally, at South Park Reserves they and Eversley & California shared four goals in an entertaining encounter involving two sides at opposite ends of the Division One league table.

The Easter Monday fixture programme was largely wiped out thanks to Hurricane Katie but two matches survived, one at Horley Town where Ashley Nadesan had an Easter Monday which I doubt he would want to forget in a hurry. Not content with scoring both first half goals in the 36th and 44th minutes he added two more in the second half to give Horley a 4-0 victory which ended a scoring drought for the club.

The other match at Guildford City score wise was a much closer proposition as all that separated the two sides was a Richard Smith goal for visitors Sutton Common Rovers.
