With all the weekend’s Buildbase FA Vase ties completed, it has to be said that there was a disappointing outcome for the CCL with just nine clubs going through from the 27 ties that took place. That may rise to ten, if AFC Hayes, in the only draw involving CCL clubs, can win their replay at Hatfield Town on Tuesday evening.
Concentrating upon the positive, Walton & Hersham made no mistake in their 7-1 hammering of Mile End, from Sussex, who, although they play at Step 6, had previously been unbeaten. Equally meritable was Deportivo Galicia’s win on Sunday by six goals to three, albeit after extra time, over Lewisham Borough from the Southern Counties East League. CB Hounslow did well to overcome fellow Step 5 opposition from Sussex, in the shape of Peacehaven and Telscombe, as did Horley Town, 4-2 winners at Worthing United. Farnham Town defeated Hellenic League opposition, Ascot United, by three goals to one, and Knaphill saw off the challenge of Sidlesham, whilst special mention goes to our Division One clubs who won through, namely AC London, Chessington & Hook, Cobham and, as mentioned, Deportivo.
On the other side of the coin, no less than seven of our Premier Division clubs were eliminated at the first hurdle, some of whom lost to Step 6 opposition.
The 2nd Qualifying Round brings in seven more of our clubs, who all received a bye on Saturday, so we are due to have 17 (18 if AFC Hayes win their replay) CCL clubs competing, with three more coming in at the 1st Round Proper stage. There will be two all CCL ties, Badshot Lea against Frimley Green and AC London against Horley Town.
