More Musings from Press Secretary Neil Morrell

By Admin ccl

To cover Tue 20 - Sat 24 October

Once again, Midweek Musings covers fixtures played between Tuesday, 20th, and Friday, 23rd October, as within this said period, with the exception of Thursday, we have games on Wednesday over at South Park Res., who entertain Frimley Green in a Surrey County Premier Cup, 2nd Round, tie, and Friday, where Hanworth Villa welcome Redhill to the 'Ranch' for a Premier Division match.

Covering a variety of Cup competitions, for the record, our two Premier Division fixtures saw Chessington & Hook United, thanks to a couple of Ade Oketoki goals, edge out visitors Colliers Wood United by the odd goal in three. Over at Raynes Park Vale, it was a different story as visitors Farnham Town came away with a good 2-0 victory secured.

Our two Surrey County Senior Cup, First Round, ties saw Camberley Town, despite taking a slender lead on the hour through Paul Coventry, bow out as visitors Knaphill squared proceedings fifteen minutes from time courtesy of a Rob Kearsley penalty and then secure their progress courtesy of a penalty shoot out. No joy for hosts Epsom & Ewell either as visitors Dorking Wanderers (Isthmian FL) racked up a 6-1 victory on the night over at Chipstead.

In the Middlesex County Senior Cup, victories were secured by Ashford Town, 3-2 at Hanworth Villa, AFC Hayes, 4-2 at Harefield United (Spartan South Midlands FL), and Spelthorne Sports 2-1 after extra time against Bedfont Sports.

Over at Alwyns Lane, Chertsey, the Aldershot Football Association Senior Open Invitation Challenge Cup match they hosted against Cove saw the contest go into extra time with the sides locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes. This additional thirty minute period saw a flurry of goals which, in the end, saw Chertsey Town progress having secured a 5-2 victory. Not so hectic at Sandhurst Town, though, as visitors Hartley Wintney came out 2-1 winners on the night.

Westfield welcomed British Airways (Middlesex County FL) to Woking Park for a Southern Combination Cup, 2nd Round, tie and, thanks to goals from Matt Jackson, Ben Placito and Nick Thumwood, helped secure a 3-1 victory.

Two RPM Records Division One Cup matches saw C.B. Hounslow United secure a 2-0 victory over at Ash United while, at Eversley & California, visitors Worcester Park won by the odd goal in seven.

Just the one game on Wednesday. This was over at South Park Res. where they and Frimley Green played out a Surrey County Premier Cup, 2nd Round, tie which, after both sides shared four goals, went to penalties which saw the visitors secure further progress.

Again, just the one fixture Friday evening which saw hosts Hanworth Villa go down to a fourth League defeat of the season as visitors Redhill secured their third League victory having secured a comprehensive 4-0 victory on the night.

Saturday Scene 24th October, 2015

On a day that saw, prior to commencement, our top three sides all fail to win, League defeat number four was inflicted on table toppers Ashford Town over at Short Lane by the odd goal in five against Epsom & Ewell just a few days after the 'Salts' found themselves well and truly dumped out of the Surrey County Senior Cup following a visit from Dorking Wanderers (Isthmian FL). Second placed Camberley Town, again past midweek, faced a First Round Surrey County Senior Cup home defeat at the hands of League rivals Knaphill whom, only a few weeks previously, they had taken maximum League points from. Not on this occasion, though, as penalties led to the 'Knappers' gaining sweet revenge.

Third placed Horley Town (at start of play) swapped places with Hartley Wintney as a 2-2 draw over at ever improving Spelthorne Sports saw them slip a place. Nine League wins out of nine now for the 'Row' mean Hartley Wintney are just six points behind leaders Ashford Town having played six games less and three behind second placed Camberley Town having played five less.

1-0 up after ten minutes thanks to a Mark Farrell header, things got worse for the hosts within a minute of this as, despite injuring himself in the process, Kyle Hough swiftly doubled the advantage. Not content with that though, Sam Currie made it 3-0 on seventeen minutes sending shock waves around the 'Tangerines' faithful. Stunned by this, Jack Beadle pulled a goal back on nineteen minutes and then Samad Kazi three minutes after. You, by then, probably would have fancied the hosts chances of getting back on level terms pretty much on the cards. Sadly not, though, despite all they threw at their visitors. Such was the amazement of the first quarter of this game, no more scoring activity followed and Epsom & Ewell came away with a slim 3-2 result bagged.

Camberley Town, having lost Bobby Dormer just before the break to a red card, went down to a surprise 2-0 reversal against lowly Sutton Common Rovers thanks to second half goals from Francois Gabbidon and Richie Smith.

Liam Eagle scored the only goal of the match for Hartley Wintney over at Knaphill. Nice to see that, again within the Premier Division, not one goal-less draw came from our games played.

Talking of goals, looks as though Chalky Lane was not a bad place to be. Visiting Chessington & Hook United were Guildford City who, over the past week, had bolstered their squad with a host of new signings. Among these new faces was a young chap by the name of Adam Nditi who weighed in with three as, despite falling behind just over five minutes into play, their efforts were well rewarded with a most amazing 9-3 victory being secured,. Sure 'Chessy' had their playing numbers reduced very early on but a result like this attracts notice out and about.

Elsewhere within the Division, Windsor picked up a good three points over at Farnham Town following an odd goal in seven victory whilst AFC Hayes eased to a 5-0 victory over bottom club Cove over at Farm Park. Bedfont Sports came away from Chertsey Town 3-1 winners and Badshot Lea came away from Colliers Wood United 2-1 victors. Hosts Westfield took the points in a 4-2 home victory against Raynes Park Vale and, finally, over at Spelthorne Sports, the only draw in the division saw them and afternoon visitors Horley Town share four goals.

Ahead of our glance at Division One activity, huge congratulations are offered to Eversley & California who, barely ten minutes into their Southern Combination Cup home encounter with Walton Casuals (Isthmian FL) looked bleak to say the least as they trailed 2-0. HOWEVER: Massive Credit to them, though, as, firstly, they got themselves back on level terms to force the tie into extra time where Matt Griffiths hit the winner for them on 103 minutes to cap a wonderful comeback.

C.B. Hounslow United made the most of Eversley & California not playing League football Saturday by beating Epsom Athletic 2-0 at home. Top scorers of the day in the Division were Worcester Park as they eased to a 6-0 home win against Farleigh Rovers thanks to goals from Lee Davison (3), Carl Chaney, Tom Costelloe and Chris Burke weighing in also with a goal each to their names.

Bedfont & Feltham found the going hard in their away match with Dorking. However, an 89th minute goal from Mick Campbell ensured a maximum points haul.

Of our new teams in the Division this season, Abbey Rangers seem to be, on the whole, doing best out of the three teams. Their latest game saw them register a 2-0 win at Ash United while Dorking Wanderers Res. drew 0-0 in their home match with Frimley Green whilst South Park Reserves went down by the only goal of the game at Staines Lammas. Banstead Athletic took maximum points from their trip to Cobham following a 3-1 victory and then, finally, over at Sandhurst Town, visitors Sheerwater left pointless as the 'Fizzers' secured a 4-2 home victory.

Busy week of varied activity again for many of our sides this midweek as many are involved ahead of the Football Association Challenge Vase, 1st Round, activity - details of these fixtures, as per normal, can be found on our various websites. To all our sides competing in the Vase, we wish them every success as they aim to further progress.

Before then, though, our next round of Musings will feature midweek activity out and about.
