One of the main games in the Combined Counties Premier Division at the weekend was the relegation six pointer between Raynes Park Vale and Sutton Common Rovers. The struggling home side succumbed to a 2-0 loss against the Gander Green Lane outfit, meaning Vale are now nine games without a win whilst SCR have won their last three away games.

Bedfont & Feltham didn’t come close to making up the gap however, as they were hammered 5-0 at Camberley. The highlight of that game was a hattrick for Freddie Kelsey who had only previously scored one goal in seventy odd appearances for his club!

Chertsey Town also missed the opportunity to climb away from the drop zone after a narrow 2-1 defeat at Epsom and Ewell, a two goal deficit proving too much to bridge. AFC Hayes’ 4-1 win against Guildford City then was a particularly big result as they dragged themselves six points clear of the drop. The result was something of a surprise given Hayes hadn’t won in the league since the 22nd October.

Farnham Town picked up a decent point with a 1-1 draw at home to Colliers Wood United, keeping them narrowly above AFC Hayes in the table.

At the top of the table Hartley Wintney maintained their comfortable top spot with a 4-1 win away to Knaphill, Sam Argent hitting a hattrick to help his side to victory. Things got even better for Hartley as nearest challengers Westfield suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at mid-table North Greenford United, ending a nine game unbeaten run.

Walton & Hersham also lost ground on the league leaders after being held to a draw at Abbey Rangers, with two red cards not helping the cause of the Swans. Whilst the chasing pack dropping points might have started to become a weekend theme Hanworth Villa made no mistake by comfortably dismantling Spelthorne Sports 5-0. All five goals in that game came in the second half.

Perhaps the most entertaining game of the day came at The New Defence as Horley edged past Windsor in a 5-3 thriller. Windsor had actually taken the lead early on in that one but couldn’t fight their way back from two goals down in the second half. In a battle between two relatively mid-table sides and local rivals Bedfont Sports secured a 2-1 victory at CB Hounslow, a late goal the difference there.

Banstead Athletic now sit six points clear at the top of Division One after another convincing win, this time 5-0 at home to Sheerwater in the deep fog. Nearest challengers Bagshot were convincingly beaten 4-1 away to Eversley & California, despite taking the lead. The Combined Counties new boys are now without a win in three games despite an electric start to the season.

Redhill moved into second place with a 2-0 win away to Dorking – their 8th win on the trot. Chessington & Hook stayed in promotion contention after a 4-1 win away to South Park Reserves, despite an early scare after falling behind and missing a penalty.

Balham produced the high scoring game of the day after hammering struggling Epsom Athletic 8-1. There was better news for the other side well adrift in Division One though as Cove claimed a rare point, only their fifth of the season, with an entertaining 4-4 draw away to Ash United. Ash aren’t in the best of form at the moment and are now four without a win.

Worcester Park and AC London also produced an entertaining game, with the Sutton Borough based side picking up a 4-2 win, their sixth in a row in the league. Elsewhere in Division One Frimley Green won 2-0 away at Cobham whilst Staines Lammas secured a 1-0 home win against Farleigh Rovers.
