Buildbase FA Vase - Preview

By Admin ccl

15 clubs involved next weekend

The 2nd Qualifying Round of the Buildbase FA Vase takes place this coming weekend and the CCL will have 15 clubs competing, including five from Division One, although there are a further four who will enter the competition at a later stage.

Sadly Guildford City have been removed from the competition after fielding an ineligible player in the previous round. The player concerned was a contract player on loan to Guildford and such players are not allowed in the Vase. It used to be absolutely inevitable that a club would be removed if they were found guilty of playing an ineligible player for whatever reason, but the FA do not always seem to follow that principle in recent seasons and Clapton of the Essex Senior League were also charged with playing an ineligible player but their explanation was accepted with their game to be replayed. No doubt there is a good reason.

One tie has been arranged for next Sunday and that is Wellingborough Town at home to Bedfont Sports. This is because AC Rushden & Diamonds with whom Wellingborough share have a home Evostick League match.

Of the other games, there are two all CCL ties. Division One Frimley Green will face a stern test at home to Walton & Hersham, who have yet to taste defeat in a league match, whilst Abbey Rangers will play at home to Badshot Lea, an all Premier Division tie.

CB Hounslow have drawn the short straw travelling wise as they will be making the nigh on 100 mile trip to play Thrapson Town, who play in Division One of the United Counties League, whilst Bedfont Sports’ trip up to Wellingborough is just under 75 miles.

Possibly the stand-out match is Westfield v Haywards Heath Town. Westfield have won every league game this season whilst Haywards Heath, currently second in the Southern Combination, have won all but one.
