Farnham Town and CB Hounslow take latest honours

By Admin ccl

League Season Concluded but two Finals this week.

Two matters were resolved on Saturday 7 May, firstly in the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup, which saw Farnham Town beating Camberley Town by three goals to one. The damage was done in the first half with Farnham’s Matt Glass scoring two, and Mark Corbett one, to put their side firmly in the driving seat at the break.

Camberley did their best to retrieve the situation in the second half and pulled one back on 65 minutes through Matt Bunyan and had they scored another it could have been game on but Farnham were not to be denied and were worthy winners of the trophy at the expiration of the full 90 minutes. League Chairman Chris Conlon handed over the trophy to a delighted Farnham squad, who now have to try to do it all over again on Wednesday evening, when the two clubs meet once more in the Final of the Aldershot Senior Cup at Aldershot Town FC.

Windsor were the hosts on Saturday and, as expected, their organisation and hospitality were superb and the pitch could not be faulted. The League sends its thanks accordingly, and also to both Camberley and Frimley Green who expertly hosted the League’s other two finals.

Also resolved on Saturday was the championship of Division One. CB Hounslow needed only to avoid defeat to take the trophy against bottom side Epsom Athletic and whilst Epsom put up a good fight, they could not prevent CB from winning by 3 goals to nil, enabling them to take the championship by three points from neighbours Bedfont & Feltham. With their new ground in Hounslow under construction, the future looks bright for CB after several lean years.

There are just two matches left this week, both in finals of outside competitions. One is the Aldershot Senior Cup Final, as mentioned above, whilst the other is the Final of the Southern Combination Challenge Cup, which will be between Molesey FC and Dorking FC on Wednesday evening, at Molesey, kick-off 7.45 p.m.
