Bedfont Sports take Grant-Mclellan Youth Cup for 3rd Successive Season, Hanworth Villa win County Cup, Dorking and Molesey Through to S. Comb. Cup Final

Continuing the round up of this season’s honours, on Monday Hartley Wintney and Camberley met in the final match of the season. Nothing was riding upon it for already crowned champions Hartley Wintney but it was a vital match for the visitors. If they won they would be promoted, if they lost they would finish behind rivals Ashford Town (Middlesex), who would then take the promotion place.

Hartley Wintney were determined to finish the season by beating their local rivals, having lost twice to them during the season, once in a cup match and once in the League. Consequently a pulsating match ensued, with both sides giving their all in front of the League’s highest attendance of the season of 378. Referee Rick Letheren had plenty to do but he was on top of his game and in the end it was Hartley Wintney who took the points, scoring the winner in the last few minutes to make the final scoreline 3-2 in their favour.

On the same day Hanworth Villa were celebrating becoming the only side in the League to win a County Cup competition this season as they beat Spartan South Midlands side Cockfosters 2-0 in the Final at Northwood.

On Tuesday evening Division One side Dorking overcame an exhausted Chessington & Hook team by four goals to one in the first semi-final of the Southern Combination Cup, whilst on the following evening Molesey inflicted a further disappointment upon Camberley Town by four goals to three after the visitors had led 3-2.

The Final has been arranged for WED 11 MAY, kick-off 7.45 p.m. at MOLESEY FC.

Finally on Thursday evening Bedfont Sports U18 created a little bit of history by winning the Grant-McLellan Youth Cup for the third season in succession. In the Final played at Frimley Green, who were excellent hosts, Sports overcame AFC Croydon Athletic U18 in a truly excellent match by two goals to nil, the scorers being Cerion Brown on 37 minutes and Harrison Livingstone on 69. Man of the match, as chosen by League Officer Roger King, was Bedfont’s Harry Sanders.

It is worth recording that whilst the match was fast and competitive, referee Oxenham , who enjoyed an excellent match, did not need his notebook even once, both teams showing excellent discipline throughout. The attendance was 70.
