Midweek Musings 7 - 10 March 2016

Midweek activity got underway on Monday evening over at Abbey Rangers as they entertained fellow Division One colleagues Worcester Park in a 4th Round/Quarter-Final Surrey County Premier Cup tie which was switched venue-wise to Addlestone Moor as Abbey Rangers are fortunate to have floodlights which 'Park' sadly do not. No doubting Abbey Rangers capabilities so far this season, especially League-wise, as they, at the time of compiling our midweek round-up, lie in second spot and could well feature in the promotion chase come end of the season. Monday night though, the evening belonged to Worcester Park as they ran out 2-1 winners moving them just one step away from the final. Firstly though, they must overcome Nottsborough (Southern Amateur FL.)

On Tuesday, much more football was available and just the one game failing to get played as conditions over at Chalky Lane still mean no home activity for Chessington & Hook United and tenants Epsom Athletic. Elsewhere though activity was certainly plentiful in various competitions.

Result of the night must be the Middlesex Charity Cup, Quarter-Final, tie where, thanks to a treble scoring effort from Levi King, our boys from Hanworth Villa who, having initially taken a 1-0 lead, only to fall 3-1 behind and then force their hosts Wealdstone (Southern FL) into a penalty shoot-out which they secured a 4-3 victory on the ground of their hosts.

Tremendous result achieved by Farleigh Rovers following their visit to Farnham Town where their Reserve team (Suburban FL) welcomed Rovers for a Surrey County Premier Cup tie that, following a six goal open play encounter, the tie had to be decided by the taking of penalties and saw Farleigh Rovers secure a 7-6 success rate to put them through.

Hartley Wintney and Camberley Town played out a good entertaining Aldershot Football Association Senior Cup tie which resulted in the 'Reds' from Camberley securing an odd goal in five victory.

On the League front, second placed Ashford Town missed out on a chance to narrow the gap on leaders Hartley Wintney as they went down 2-3 at Raynes Park Vale. Our other four Premier Division games played saw Bedfont Sports run out 3-1 home winners against Windsor, Knaphill secure a 3-0 home victory against Badshot Lea, Spelthorne Sports win by the odd goal in five following their trip to Redhill whilst Westfield ran out comfortable 5-2 home winners against bottom club Cove and, finally, over at Horley Town, they and visitors Chertsey Town battled out a 0-0 encounter.

Three Division One games saw Bedfont & Feltham secure a comfortable 3-0 victory over at Sandhurst Town, Ash United and evening visitors Sheerwater played out a 1-1 draw over at Young’s Drive and, finally, Dorking Wanderers Reserves were too good for visitors Epsom Athletic and secured a 2-0 victory on the night.

The proposed game over at Westfield on Thursday evening against Guildford City fell victim to a waterlogged Woking Park pitch.
