Combined Counties Round Up - 26/11/16

November 27, 2016

Johnnie Lowery

It was an interesting day at the bottom of the Combined Counties League as Sutton Common Rovers beat fourth place Knaphill 5-2 in their own backyard. 17 year old Matt Auletta was the hero, coming off the bench to get a goal and an assist. Chertsey Town are now a point away from safety after a 2-2 draw away to Bedfont Sports, but will feel frustrated having been 2-0 up until the 67th minute. Badshot Lea couldn’t move away from the relegation zone after they lost 1-0 against Farnham Town, who have now won their last 3 games – dragging them away from danger. AFC Hayes now sit 3 points above the relegation zone after they picked up a hard fought point at Epsom & Ewell with a stoppage time equaliser from a corner.

At the top of the table Hartley Wintney continued their dominance with a 1-0 win over Guildford City, their 17th game in a row without a defeat – and 15 of those have been wins. Westfield kept the 12 point margin in place with a convincing 5-1 win away to CB Hounslow, Blackmore netting a hattrick in that one. Walton & Hersham took advantage of Knaphill’s slip up by beating North Greenford 2-1, and moving up to 4th place in the process. With 4 games in hand on 3rd place Hanworth Villa they can now set their sights on moving further up the table. Villa’s cause wasn’t helped by a 1-0 defeat at home to Spelthorne Sports, who can now breathe a little easier seven points from the drop zone.

Horley have been on excellent form recently but had to settle for a point against mid-table Camberley, with a Horley red card close to the end taken full advantage of by the visitors. Colliers Wood United beat Windsor 1-0 to round off the action in the Premier Division.

In Division One Bagshot remain two points clear at the top after a 5-1 win against Eversley & California. The result was never really in doubt with the home side three goals up after just half an hour. Title rivals Banstead Athletic kept the pressure on with their fourth straight win, this time 2-0 away at Frimley Green. Redhill have emerged as strong promotion contenders after winning 7 of their last 8 games – this week they beat Dorking 2-0 at home, dealing the Chicks their 6th straight loss. The game between AC London and Chessington & Hook promised to be an interesting game, but ended up being a fairly poor one, decided by an AC London goal midway through the second half giving them the 1-0 win.

There was something of a surprise at Balham as 16th place Farleigh claimed a point at the high flyers, just a couple of weeks after conceding 9 goals at home to Worcester Park. In fairness to Farleigh, Park are on an excellent run at the moment and kept it going with a 3-2 win against Sheerwater. At the bottom of the table there was more misery for Cove and Epsom Athletic with both suffering 2-0 home defeats, to Staines Lammas and Cobham respectively. Elsewhere in Division One, South Park Reserves beat Ash United 2-1 away from home.

Where next?

Congraulations to Liam Holden, Sutton Common Rovers 300 appearances behind him and still in his 20's
