The Final Word

From Press Secretary Neil Morrell

The Final Word for season 2015/2016 comes in the shape of finals in both the Southern Combination Cup Final where, in what many would say against the odds, our Division One boys Dorking battled bravely through the rounds to reach the final against a Molesey side whom, not so long ago, left the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League via promotion and saw them head off to the Isthmian (Ryman) Football League, Division One South. Slight problem though as persistent rain on the pitch down south meant that hopes of the game going ahead Wednesday evening fell short of hope and expectation and a waterlogged pitch at Walton Road was declared. Hopes now, as I write, that the game will be played Friday evening (13th May) subject to the pitch being declared playable.

However, better news from Aldershot Town Football Club (National FL) where the Aldershot Football Association Senior Cup Final thankfully looks as though it has beaten the weather and from where we can pick up events from the evening’s play in this the second meeting of these two clubs Farnham Town and Camberley Town barely five days after battling out a Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup Final which, as we know, saw Paul Warner’s Farnham Town notch up a 3-1 victory over at Stag Meadow, Windsor. So then, despite the issues encountered over at Molesey, play was possible over at Aldershot, thankfully, with Farnham Town and Camberley Town meeting each other for a second time in five days. Not unlike Saturday last, Farnham Town looked as though, having scored very early on, that a second trophy obtained in five days looked to be potentially within their grasp. Going into the final twenty minutes though, Perry Coles threw Camberley Town a lifeline when he made it 1-1 on the night. All of a sudden, it was the Krooner Park boys who had their tails up now and seemed to be the team who were going to be victorious on the night. Barely four minutes after this equalizer, that boy Coles was onion bag busting again as he put Camberley Town 2-1 up; a lead which they held on to until the final whistle to ensure them a 2-1 victory on the night and a piece of silverware for their efforts which saw revenge secured and the annual ownership of this cup head towards Krooner Park which we congratulate them upon securing.

With the re-arrangement of the Southern Combination Cup Final moved forward 48 hours, this ensured that the playing surface over at Walton Road had dried out enough to allow play and, in the end, a bit of a one sided game ensued. Dorking, despite taking the lead through a converted Theo Campbell penalty, went down 6-1 on the night to a very strong Molesey (Isthmian FL) side thanks, in the main, to Reis Stainislaus who bagged a hat-trick on the night along with a brace courtesy of Dre Grobler and one from Romaine Reynolds.
